What airport should I fly into?
We recommend that you fly into the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, which is about 25 minutes from the Dallas Convention Center. Dallas Love Field Airport, a smaller airport, is about 15 minutes from the convention center.
How much is a taxi from the airport to the Dallas Convention Center?
The average taxi fare to the convention center from the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is approximately $41 (not including tip). From Dallas Love Field Airport, the taxi fare to the convention center is about $14 (not including tip).
What is the address of the convention center?
The Dallas Convention Center is located at 650 S. Griffin St., Dallas 75202.
When does the last session end so I know when to schedule my return flight?
The closing keynote presentation ends at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22.
Is there an airport shuttle service to the hotels?

What hotels are closest to the Dallas Convention Center?
There are 12 official conference hotels. Several hotels are within walking distance, and those that are not will have complimentary shuttle service. Single room rates average approximately $200 plus taxes and fees. Click here for the housing webpage.

Who are the keynote speakers?
The opening keynote on Monday, May 20, is Sir Ken Robinson, an internationally recognized leader in the development of learning, creativity, and innovation. The videos of his famous 2006 and 2010 TED conference talks have been seen by an estimated 200 million people in over 150 countries. He led a national commission on creativity, education, and the economy for the UK government. For 12 years he was professor of education at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom and is now professor emeritus. His classic work on creativity and innovation is Out of Our Minds: Learning to be Creative.
The second keynote on Tuesday, May 21, is John Seely Brown, a visiting scholar and advisor to the provost at University of Southern California, and the independent co-chairman of the Deloitte Center for the Edge. Prior to that he was the chief scientist of Xerox Corporation and the director of its Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) -- a position he held for nearly two decades. While head of PARC, Brown expanded the role of corporate research to include such topics as organizational learning, knowledge management, complex adaptive systems, and nano/mems technologies. He was a co-founder of the Institute for Research on Learning. His most current book is A New Culture of Learning: Cultivating the Imagination for a World of Constant Change.
The closing keynote on Wednesday, May 22, is Liz Wiseman. She is the author of Multipliers: How the Best Leaders Make Everyone Smarter, a Wall Street Journal bestseller. She has conducted significant research in the field of leadership and collective intelligence, and writes for Harvard Business Review and a variety of other business and leadership journals. A former executive at Oracle Corporation, she worked over the course of 17 years as the VP of Oracle University and as the global leader for Human Resource Development. She is a frequent guest lecturer and has taught at Stanford, Yale, BYU, and the Naval Academy.
Special Events
What happened to the Celebration event?
The special event Tuesday evening, May 21, is called Networking Night this year. The cost is $75. Tickets are in high demand, so we encourage conference attendees to purchase tickets well in advance as we cannot guarantee ticket availability on site at the conference. Tickets are now available for purchase onsite only at Registration. Networking Night is for conference attendees and adult guests.
Can I bring my children with me to Networking Night?
Tickets can be purchased only for individuals 18 years and older.
I registered for Networking Night -- how do I get my ticket?
Registrants for Networking Night will receive an exchange voucher that needs to be turned in at the Networking Night kiosk near registration for an event ticket.
Can I get a refund for the Networking Night tickets if I'm not able to attend?
Networking Night tickets are non-refundable.
Will transportation be provided to Networking Night?
Yes, shuttle service will be provided from all official conference hotels to Networking Night. A schedule will be posted in the hotel lobby.
Registration
How can I get a receipt for my conference registration?
If you are a current member or registered customer, please visit www.astd.org and sign in to view your receipts from your My Profile page. From this page, select My Orders from the My Account menu tab so you can search for and view records of previous orders made through the ASTD store and print a receipt.
You can also send an email to customercare@astd.org with your membership number or full name, address information, and your order number, and we will email a receipt to you. You can also call our Customer Care Center at 800.628.2783 (U.S. only) or 1.703.683.8100 (International) Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. ET.
When is the last day to register for the conference?
Badge and credentials will be mailed to attendees who have registered before March 29, 2013. Online and pre-registration ends at 6 p.m. ET on May 9, 2013. After this time, attendees will need to register onsite.
What is the cancellation policy?
- Badge and credentials will be mailed to attendees who have registered before March 29, 2013.
- There will be no refunds or credits issued after March 29, 2013.
- All cancellations prior to March 29, 2013, are required in writing to customercare@astd.org and a $100 cancellation fee will apply.
- Online and preregistration ends at 6 p.m. ET on May 9, 2013. After this time, attendees will need to register on site.
How do I cancel a conference registration?
All cancellations must be received in writing to customercare@astd.org. For policy details, see above question.
How do I transfer a conference registration to another person?
Please send your transfer request to customercare@astd.org.
I registered after the March 29 date for having credentials mailed -- how do I get my badge?
Once on site, you can go to the Express Badge Pick-up to print your badge. EXPO-only registrants, exhibitors, and speakers also may print their badges at the Express Badge Pick-up.
When will I receive access to the free conference recordings?
It is an added benefit for full conference registrants to have access to session recordings as part of their registration. Attendees will receive an email after the conference with a link to access the recordings, which they will be able to access for up to 30 days from receipt of the email. If attendees would like additional time to access the recordings, they can order the access through the ASTD online store.
What meals and breaks are included?
The following meals will be provided in the EXPO for conference registrants:
- May 20: Lunch in EXPO Hall
- May 21: Lunch in EXPO Hall
Can my friend, spouse, or child attend the conference sessions?
With a full registration, you may add a guest to your registration for an additional fee of $325. A guest conference registration includes only general sessions and entrance to the EXPO Hall. A guest badge can be added only to a full conference registration. Only one guest is permitted per full conference attendee. Persons younger than 18 years of age are not permitted on the EXPO floor.
I'm registered for a preconference certificate program but am arriving after registration closes for the day. How do I get my registration materials?
Registration opens at 7 a.m. so you will have time to register before the 8:30 a.m. start of the certificate program.
Can my company get a discounted registration if we bring a group?
Yes, the rate for five or more registrants from the same company who are national ASTD members is $1,100 each. (The non-member rate for conference teams is $1,400 per registrant.) Contact conferenceteams@astd.org to set up a conference team.
I'm with an organization from another country -- are there discounts on registrations available to us?
Yes, the rate for international delegations of national ASTD members is $1,100 each. (The non-member rate for international delegations is $1,400 per registrant.) Contact Nicole Washington at nwashington@astd.org for more details.
Is there a discount for government employees?
Employees of federal, state, local, or tribal governments are eligible for this rate ($1,100 for national ASTD members and $1,400 for non-members). Download a partially completed SF-182 form.
How do we send a chapter team to the conference?
If at least five members of your chapter are attending the conference, your chapter will qualify for a chapter team and can take advantage of discounted rates of $1,100 for national ASTD members and $1,400 for nonmembers. To set up your chapter team, contact Natasha Porter at nporter@astd.org (703.683.8154). Chapter teams will be established when at least five registrations from the chapter are received.
When will a chapter team code be listed in the conference drop-down menu for registration for our chapter members?
Your chapter will be listed on the drop-down menu within one business day after the chapter team is established.
I already registered for the conference but would like to join my chapter's team. Is it possible to get a refund for the difference in registration rates?
Yes, please contact Natasha Porter at nporter@astd.org to have the difference refunded.
I'm a student -- how do I qualify for the student rate?
To qualify for the ASTD 2013 student registration rate, students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours (half-time) undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited university or college, OR be an active ASTD chapter student member.

What is the dress code for the conference?
The dress code is business casual. We suggest that you bring a jacket or sweater since some of the meeting rooms may be cold.
